Last Days of August

Reading and Organizing….and Cleaning

004

Hello Everyone, no, I haven’t dropped off the earth but I have been busy. The storm passed us by but did create wind gusts that made a bit of a mess of the back yard. We live on a lake and the winds can really build up across it before they land in your yard. No complaining, though. We were really blessed. I continue to send prayers for those of you who had to bear the brunt of this storm…..they are awful. Believe me, I could write a book on them since I have lived in Florida all my life.

006

I finally started back on my ‘job’ of redoing my studio. This has been a long and hard process for me as I still can’t bring myself…..but I will…..to realize that I no longer craft or want to. There are seasons in our lives for everything and I just don’t have a passion for it anymore. I once loved it more than eating, I think. :-) Seriously, things change, don’t they? Sometimes….it is hard to move on but I do know that I am always happier once I have made a decision….it seems I can, at last, rest about it.

008

During my cleaning out process, I ordered some decorating books from Amazon. com and I am having a wonderful time reading them. I love so many different styles of decorating and it seems I can never get enough.

009

I also found, in my cleaning out, a stack of Romantic Homes magazines from 1996 to 2000. I was overjoyed. They look completely new and are chock full of the most delicious ideas. If you are a Romantic Homes reader, you know what a thrill this was!

Well back to the work….it is coming along nicely. Just had to take a minute and check in…..I hope you are doing well and enjoying these last days of summer. Can you believe it?

Thanks for stopping by.

Barb

  1. I don't craft like I used to but have not yet decided to quit. I love doing all the things that my craft room has waiting there for me, but they will continue to wait for me a while longer. Meanwhile summer days are almost over and I must make the most of them while they are here. I am glad you didn't have any worse effects of the storm than you did. I see on the news that others are still experiencing terrible flooding. Enjoy your work there in your special room. I will be looking forward to seeing the transformation.

  3. It is so hard to belive that summer is winding down! I totally understand about different times in our lives. I worked as a floral designer and LOVED my job! I "retired" because of someone there, NOT because I wanted to. BUT, I still do decorate people's homes at Christmas, in fact just got a call this morning. So, I can still be "in it" like that. I ahve alot of arrangements etc. in the attic that I ahve decded to let go of. It is time. XO, Pinky

  4. I am so glad to hear the storm didn't do too much damage to you and yours Barb! I also did fine here in upstate New York although all around me communities were devastated.
I can hardly wait to see what you do with your decorating and will be watching for your posts!

  7. I related to your statement about finally making the decision to do something and how it is a relief and clears the head. I have changed course several times in my life and moved on from things I never would have dreamed of giving up but it is so freeing when that season is past.

  8. My mother calls it chapters in our lives, and your craft chapter is past. I understand the passing of chapters, and face them with joy sometimes, and sadness at others. I look forward to what comes from your browsing of decorating books now. I have been receiving "Romantic Homes" magazines for many years and enjoy every copy.

    Another beautiful,calm, relaxing post.

  10. Barb, I am so glad to hear that you were not too affected by the storm. It seems that every time there is another disaster I feel overwhelmed with emotion. Too much tv...

I know what you mean about crafting. I used to scrapbook and make jewelry and such, was completely addicted to it. Now I have give it up, just lost the passion. Enjoy your books and magazines.

so glad that you were not affected by the storm. I understand just how you feel about losing one passion. It just means there will be another one to take its place.

  14. Hi Barb! Oh, I know - I can't believe summer is on it's way out. It doesn't feel that way around here it's still so hot.
I'm like you, I don't craft like I used to. I used to love to scrap book but I just don't anymore. I want to do it again, but then there's blogging!
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)
